According to various news reports, the New Brunswick government has confirmed on Wednesday that NB Liquor will handle recreational cannabis sales through a subsidiary when the drugs become legal next July. As said by the government, through the subsidiary, Marijuana will be sold in up to 20 standalone stores.
The Finance Minister Cathy Rogers claims the stores will be run under the rules and conditions of business unfold by the Crown Corporation.
As said by Financial Minister, Cathy Rogers at a news conference on Wednesday, “Our priorities are clear and we believe that today`s announcement is the best model to help us meet our objectives.”
She added that it is essential New Brunswickers have approached to a safe, quality controlled product which is offered in an environment which is socially responsible.
Cathy Rogers said that NB Liquor has a retail market experience and it is believed by the provincial government that this will help to provide a smooth transition into the new market.
The chief executive officer of NB Liquor Brian Harriman told the news conference on Wednesday morning that there are still lots of work to be done and they have a very limited time left.
