Dorothy Wood’s new book “The Embodiment of Culture: Race and Class in Schools” is a significant reminder of America’s stance in dealing with racism and bigotry

Dorothy Wood, a retired teacher from Mississippi, has completed her new book “The Embodiment of Culture: Race and Class in Schools”: a culmination of life that recounts racism, culture, and intolerance, as seen through the eyes of a black person.

Author Wood shows how society stigmatizes individuals deemed as “different” because of skin color and a unique culture: “If all this is not disconcerting enough, when the issue of race comes up (as I mentioned during the public hearing), whites place blacks in an anachronistic position and flip the scripts so as to charge blacks with racism. Perhaps this role reversal is due, in large part, to (1) America’s inability to distinguish between ethnicity and race and (2) an inability to apply both to structural realities of American capital, political authority, and social institutions.”

Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Dorothy Wood’s tantalizing novel reminds readers of an opprobrium done towards the people of a specific race and social group, ostracizing individuals based on biased judgments. It is also a reflection on how harsh society can be because of prejudice, thus calling out to everyone to stand up and unite against racism and bigotry.

Readers who wish to experience this eye-opening work can purchase “The Embodiment of Culture: Race and Class in Schools” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play, Kobo, or Barnes and Noble.

About the Author: Carrie Brunner

Carrie Brunner grew up in a small town in northern New Brunswick. She studied chemistry in college, graduated, and married her husband one month later. They were then blessed with two baby boys within the first four years of marriage. Having babies gave their family a desire to return to the old paths – to nourish their family with traditional, homegrown foods; rid their home of toxic chemicals and petroleum products; and give their boys a chance to know a simple, sustainable way of life. They are currently building a homestead from scratch on two little acres in central Texas. There’s a lot to be done to become somewhat self-sufficient, but they are debt-free and get to spend their days living this simple, good life together with their five young children. Carrie writes mostly on provincial stories.
