Starfish by Hobsons, the student success and analytics platform that employs data-driven interventions to help students thrive and succeed in college, has been named the winner of the Gold award in the “Student Success and Retention” category in Campus Technology’s third annual Readers’ Choice Awards.

Starfish is the first fully-integrated enterprise product for students in higher education that helps them stay on track by offering advanced capabilities for in-depth academic advising, case management, and personalized degree-planning tools. The platform is integrated with the Predictive Analytics Reporting (PAR) Framework, which leverages institutions’ own data to identify students at risk and intervene in realtime to keep students on course.

“We are honored to be recognized by the Campus Technology community,” said Howard Bell, Hobsons Senior Vice President and General Manager of Starfish. “We’re proud to partner with higher education institutions to identify any obstacles that threaten student success on their campuses and to help students get the most from their education.”

Campus Technology surveyed its readers on their preferred tools and technology for higher education. This year, more than 600 respondents spanning a variety of higher education roles and institutions, including administrators, faculty, and IT staff, were surveyed and recognized Starfish as one of the top-performing tools aiding student success and retention efforts.

This is the third year in a row that Starfish has been honored with the Gold award in the “Student Success and Retention” category of Campus Technology’s Readers’ Choice Awards. To learn more about Starfish, visit

About the Author: Carrie Brunner

Carrie Brunner grew up in a small town in northern New Brunswick. She studied chemistry in college, graduated, and married her husband one month later. They were then blessed with two baby boys within the first four years of marriage. Having babies gave their family a desire to return to the old paths – to nourish their family with traditional, homegrown foods; rid their home of toxic chemicals and petroleum products; and give their boys a chance to know a simple, sustainable way of life. They are currently building a homestead from scratch on two little acres in central Texas. There’s a lot to be done to become somewhat self-sufficient, but they are debt-free and get to spend their days living this simple, good life together with their five young children. Carrie writes mostly on provincial stories.
